Monday Night

Last night was a tough one for me. I have my dvr programmed to tape, Rome, The Apprentice, Extras, Iron Chef America, The L Word and Battlestar Galactica. Well with the NFL playoffs running till after 10:00 pm my whole world was in upheaval. I decided to X out Rome and Extras in favor of watching them on OnDemand at a later time. I ended up watching the end of the excellent Colts-Pats game and then settling in for the last half hour of The Apprentice (a contestant quit) then the mid season return of Battlestar Galactica (Xena has been disconnected) and The L Word (I sense some Boys Don't Cry action is on the horizon).

Tonight we have the return of Heroes on NBC and the first normal length episode of 24.

What will you be watching tonight?

Tonight is a busy night - Prison Break, Studio 60, and possibly Heroes. I've kicked Heroes off of the DVR sched, but I will still try to catch it if I'm home.

Oh, and the Hills. I love those wacky Laguna Beach girls.

C'mon, how could you ask. Jack shot Curtis, a nukular bomb went off and CTU is partnering with a know terrorist who will somehow betray them to serve his own purpose, or everything that has gone down will be revealed to have been part of his plan from the begining. Plus the new Black haired Chloe will be getting in to a three way with them 2 douchebags working at the Edgar memorial computer station. How can you bother with anything that isn't 24? Plus the crib just got a 52 inch big screen yesterday. Dang.

I forgot about Studio 60!!!

Thankfully DVR is not as forgetful as me.

I saw that one time and liked it. I just wish there were more Tracey morgan featured.. no wait, that's 30 Rock.

At 2:21 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

And 30 Rock is good shit.

I do not watch 24.

I am certain that will make me an anomaly around these parts.

I hate Keifer.

At 2:32 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

I have heard this "I hate Keifer" thing from more than a handful of people. Do you care to explain where this hate comes from? Because to me the Keifer Sutherland B.J.B. (Before Jack Bauer) is irrelevant and forgotten.

24 is the only thing I watch on a regular basis, so if that is not discussed in this forum, i can't visit and comment. I got nothing. I mean I see heaps of Modern Marvels on the Hitler channel, but I never DVR it and who really cares about the history of Engineering Disasters anywise?

At 2:53 PM, Blogger HaterTot said...

Sorry, no way... I can't forget.

Those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it, and I'm not willing to relive Keifer's less-than-illustrious film career (Flatliners? Renegades? The Cowboy Way?) for the sake of this 24 show people seem so fond of. Plus, the man has one facial expression.

While I admit to enjoying the Lost Boys, or even the first installment of Young Guns - or hell, Stand by Me - none of it can override my dislike for him.

Studio 60 was dead to me, but yesterday there was a marathon on Bravo, and it was snowing, and I felt like sitting on the couch. So I knit about 2 feet onto my scarf and watched 4 hours of Studio 60, and now I'm kinda psyched for tonight. The DVR however, is set only for How I Met Your Mother and Heroes. If I'm still alert at 10, I'll definitely give Studio 60 another go, but I don't think it's earned its spot back on the DVR. Yet.
So excited for the new blog Jo!

At 2:56 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

Wow HT, I guess you and ricotubbs are going to stand your ground on this Keifer thing.

At 3:01 PM, Blogger GimletGirl said...

I don't *hate* Kiefer (I still feel kinda bad about the way Julia Roberts dumped hime), but HT is correct that he has but one (rather constipated) facial expression. And, no, I don't watch 24, either.
I did watch BSG last night (thanks for encouraging me to get hooked, Jo)! Can Starbuck and Apollo just run away together and get off my TV screen?

At 3:02 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

GG I am not pleased with the whole starbuck-apollo love square thing.

But I think we are going to find out that starbuck is one of the "final five" cylons.

At 3:15 PM, Blogger Heliocentric said...

Ahem... GOlden Globe, or emmy for best actor to be on TV for Keifer. I don't pay attention to any awards for anything, but a lot of people give a shit about that crap.

Plus he cried after shooting Curtis, that's at least one other expression.

I think 24 is one of the few shows that you can jump into at any season and still get the full effect.

This is probably becaus eeach season consists of a crisis that has to be resolved in the span of a single 24 hour day. See that's where they get the title...

At some point in the future I'm going to be asking people about this "How I Met Your Mother" show. I apparently know alot of folks who watch it regularly and I have never seen an episode.

At 3:20 PM, Blogger Mau said...

m sent me this way (I'm assuming so he won't be the only one watching 6 different shows tonight). i'm very excited for everything on tonight...most notably 24 and studio 60 (i only REALLY like shows with numbers in their names).

my note on 24 is that i once had a whole relationship based on it. i had never seen the show before and knew a guy who had a season (4 maybe? i can't remember which now) on DVD. we had a good time hanging out and watching a ridiculously large amount of the episodes in a row. once we were done with the season, though, i realized we had NOTHING else in common to do or talk about. not long after we finished 24, i ended the relationship.

Yeah, but I don't need another show in the rotation.

Is How I Met Your Mother the one with Doogie Howser and Willow? I don't watch that show, either. I don't see taking it up in my future.

I forgot about the L Word (again) last night, so that will be caught OnDemand later this evening or tomorrow morning before work. I third the "Boys Don't Cry" stuff, and will also say that I really dislike Max.

I would like to ammend my recent statement about 24 and the History Channel being the only stuff I watch on TV.

In fact, I left off the largest portion of my TV viewing minutes... animation. The uninformed would call it cartoons.

I catch 2 episodes of the Simpsons every day, I often see Family Guy and American Dad, but have grown tired of the Family guy formula (you know it's written by manatees right?) and never really give more than a chuckle to American Dad. I love Futurama and am upset that it only ran for a few years, but what a great way to lead in to Adult swim. one or two futuramas at 10:30... awesome. Also love Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Metalpocolypse is really growing on me.

I am so good at watching animation that I can tell you, not who the voice actor is, but what other voices that person does.

For example the voice of Fry on Futurama is also the voice of the nameless bee who shills for honey Nut Cheerios.

At 3:25 PM, Blogger Heliocentric said...

And South Park. I forgot about that because I mostly get that as a season pass on iTunes, so I don't usually see it on TV.

At 3:32 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

Welcome mau, I once dated a girl because we both really liked the movie Training Day and she loved to go to football games. After our 6th viewing of the dvd together and after football season ended the flame sputtered out.

But it was nice and toasty for a minute.

At 3:33 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

helio- I foresee several discussions about the role of animation and cartoon watching in our tv lives (past and present).

At 3:36 PM, Blogger GimletGirl said...

Yes, How I Met it is the one w/ Doogie and Willow. It's kinda like Friends, if all the Friends were really snarky and had really high pop culture IQs. They also hang out in bar instead of a coffee shop. Which all contributes to my idea that I'd like the five folks on How I Met more than I'd like the Friends. Also, I actually laugh out loud at least twice per episode (and I never laugh out loud when watching TV or movies alone)

At 4:01 PM, Blogger Mau said...

How I Met is definitely laugh out loud funny...which I was shocked by. Definitely worth giving it a try.

At 4:08 PM, Blogger HaterTot said...

But Doogie's gay and Willow was a lesbian witch - I'm just not sure I can buy it.

As you can see, I have trouble letting go of actors who I've already identified with other parts. I can believe both Chandler and Josh Lymon could go on to their respective roles on Studio 60. I could believe Brenda Walsh and Samantha Micelli as witches. (sisters was harder) Monica as a bitchy, high strung tabloid editor - sold. But Doogie and Willow hanging out doing whatever it is they do on that show? I don't know if I can buy it.

At 4:10 PM, Blogger Heliocentric said...

Al capone used to describe himself as "Snarky" To him it meant dapper, cool and in charge. What do you mean it to mean?

I learned that by watching the History Channel's St. Vallentine's day Massacre coverage last weekend. It was like a Prohibition crime bonanza last Saturday with moonshiners, rum runners, the birth of Nascar and all the gangster and speakeasy documentarys you could handle... for me it was only 3.

At 4:20 PM, Blogger Heliocentric said...

JO, I'm stretching to get real TV shows with "actors", but I will be so much more useful when the topics drift towards animation.

At 4:27 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

4:20!! Well done helio!

At 4:34 PM, Blogger Mau said...

not too much new animation during the week...except for that clay animation episode of My Name is Earl a few months ago. anyone catch that? i can't even remember if i liked it or not, but i was intrigued by the idea.

At 4:41 PM, Blogger Josephus said...

I have about 5 episodes of My Name is Earl that I need to watch.

I am out of here.
Over 30 comments on day one isn't bad. Enjoy your tv tonight and be sure to come back tomorrow so we can discuss.

lata.

I am one of the three people that has not watched an episode of "24" but people that I trust have said that it's an excellent show. Trust me. You will NOT be disappointed in the direction that ROME is headed. The acting and scenery are excellent. I'm sad that this is the last season of the series but considering that in the first season a good ten years seemed to have passed by it only makes since if they plan to keep the show somewhat historically time-line correct.

Welcome Bunn!

Rome is definently some good shit.
