Hug it out Bitch
Thursday is such a great TV day there has to be quite of things that you saw and want to discuss.
Like me for example, I have only this week begun to watch shows that are not in syndication. I watched My Name is Earl and 1.5 episodes of The Office.
All of that TV was great, but I know this community is way more advanded in their Thursday viewing than that.
What'd you see, What're you looking forward to this weekend?

I love how this blog has it's post for the day up early. Woo!
I watched nothing last night b/c I was babysitting until after 11. WTF? Dude, just let me know you're going to be gone that late. Actually, I lie. I got home & watched the end of Nightline (they talked about 'footlifts') & then managed to stay awake for a little of Jimmy Kimmel. I wound up recording it b/c, ironically enough, the 1st guest was the amazing Jeremy Piven. I love the Piven. I would hug it out with him any day. So I taped it b/c I was afraid I was going to fall asleep & miss it. Which I shouldn't have worried about, but that's another post . . . .
I got home and cooked dinner then laid on the couch and read a new batch of picture books that had arrived that day. The tv was on the NBC comedies in the background but since it was all reruns I barely saw anything. Reading over TV watching? Awful. (At least they were comics).
Check this out, subliminal advertising on the Food Network, it's wrong on so many levels.
LT did you watch the show Cupid?
I did not, but Piven lovers say it was really good.
"Brilliant but Cancelled" as they say.
Well Turtle, there is no schedule on this blog, so if there's not something up when you're ready to get your blog on, you get to put one up. Plus it's not the quality of the post, but what you can pick up from the comments that matters... at leas so far. TV Lunch may grow, but for now, it's kind of a relaxed place.
I watched Foster's home for imaginary friends while waiting for Earl to come on last night. Good episode showing the hardships of working for a harsh boss who doesn't understand the situation fully, but still hassles the workers.
Then Earl was about a cat napping / Tonya Harding style attack on a frontrunner in a cat show. It had the chick from strangers with candy, but she was a lot less awkward on Earl. I thought it was great TV. Then the Office was kind of Machieviellian too, with plots to take over leadership. Dwight is such a tool bag.
Then I watched Idiocracy again, what a good dang movie. When that ended, i caught the second half of the office episode where Ryan the temp goes on a sales visit with Dwight. It gives me pride to see temps shown on TV. I know that Ryan eventually gets hired, so it gives me hope.
Amy Sedaris played the Cat lady on Earl.
A remakably toned down performance for her.
Is that true, Jo?
I never saw the Cupid show - I have a vague memory of it . . . . - at first I thought you were talking about the Simon Cowell dating-show abomination Cupid. Did anyone watch that? It was hideous in its brilliance!! I loved it! I was so sad they never had a second season. The whole stupid conceit of it was that audience at home voted for who stayed & who went. And her two best friends were there as 'judges' saying whether or not they like the guy. Enough people voted for this one train-wreck of a guy for him to get quite far. Got, it would have been awesome if he won. He was also on a particularly tongue-y & hot tub-y & door-slammed-in-camera-man's-face-y Blind Date.
Yeah, I didn't even think about posting today given my poor tv viewing habits last night. I'm so ashamed.
So Ryan gives you hope? Even though he obviously hates his life? Aw, poor Ryan.
the problem with my current viewing habits is that i watch so much tv that any non-syndicated rerun that i may be interested in, is something that i've already seen... i did catch a "new to me" 30 rock though and found it quite enjoyable.
after that i started watching "The Lost Room", a miniseries on sciFI that got amazing reviews... so far i really like it.. it's got the guy from "sports night" as a main character and a billion other people that you would say.. "hey, it's that guy"
that subliminal thing is crazy shit. does anyone know if it is real for sure? i feel like there would be more public outrage if it was so.
i'm lovin' it

I went to Lady and Lord A's for some "fried" food and watched Grey's Anatomy (that show might have finally hooked me last night, since it ended with not 1 BUT 2 cliffhangers) and some Office episodes. Then I went home and watched the OC. I love the OC. I will be sad when it's gone.
I watched Cupid. It was great. I've been a Piven fan from way back, when he was little more than, "that guy who was (the drugstore checkout guy in Singles, the guy in the parking lot in Say Anything etc. etc.)" And of course, my Piven love blossomed with PCU, which could be the best movie that's not Animal House about college, ever.
I also watched the other Cupid a couple of times. I believe it was on around the same time as Studs.
piven's best line ever:
"Ten years man!
TEN YEARS
TEN YEARS MAN!"
wasn't he in that movie "just write".. that was supposed to be his break out roll. poor guy.
Liz, I watched the entire season of the Dating Game Cupid. It was just as described, hidiously sublime. Do you remember this line from the weight lifter Gov. Arnold wannabe..."Look Lisa....they're sailing" What I loved about that show everyone was that we the audience go to choose the love match for the young lady and the American public continued to vote for the Worse matched guy possible. It was DELICIOUS!!
The real question here is, did anyone watch PARADISE HOTEL on FOX when that was running? Now that was DA BOMB!!!
Ryan gives me hope because he landed a job with a respectable regional paper company. He can't hate his life more than I do, but at least he has a job.
M, I am pleased to hear that you're down with Sci Fi. there are so few of us who admit that readily. I mean I was on my training bike the other day and Trek came on so I was watching it to see what episode it was when my roommate walked in. He was like, you are NOT watching Star Trek. he shamed me in to changing the channel. (it was the season 1 episode where we first meet the Fegengi)
I haven't gotten in to BSG, but I could get behind it based on the .4 episodes I have seen.
I meant 'WORST' not worse, and'GOT TO' not 'go to'. I don't want Jo sayinging anything about my spehhlings...
Damn M, I had all three episodes of The Lost Room saved in my DVR but erased them the other day cuz I thought I would never get around to watching them.
Damn your eyes Peter Krause!
helio I have the first couple seasons of BSG on dvd if you want to check them out.
It's goooooood.
I got dipso hooked on it.
Bunn can't spell.
Wasn't the Piven on 'Ellen', too? I suppose I could go to imdb, but I'm lazy & will rely on the memories of my co-bloggers.
I don't remember that sailing line, Bunn. Damn, I wish I did. My favorite date was when he dressed her up hideously & then cried! Seriously - wtf is up with that?!? Oh, that was awesome. Her blonde friend was great.
God, Studs was great! I was recently watching my Ben Stiller Show dvd & they had a Studs in Amish Country. "I was impressed with his stroke while he was churning my butter!" Woooooo!
As I quickly skim the comments (I've been in a meeting for the past hour) I keep thinking that the conversation has turned to the soap opera "Ryan's Hope".
I watch so much MTV, I get emails from them. This season's installment of Road Rules allows we the viewers to vote people off. And, I guess there's a cast comprised of old Road Rulers and then a Pit Crew of new kids. (literally, not Donny, Jordan, Joey et al - though that would be cool)
Read more here.
I'm a fan of this idea. I like shows where I get to have a say. Particularly about people that I have such strong feelings about, like MTV reality show "stars."
Wait, we're not talking about Ryan's Hope? I ignored those comments because I thought, "that silly show isn't even on anymore. But, I think that's where Meg Ryan got her start."
Yes, Piven was on the old Ellen show.
The missus watched the Road Rules casting special while I was reading my picture books. I tried to follow it but I couldn't figure out how the hell this season is supposed to work.
HT, I refuse to watch MTV. That might be because I never liked or listened to any music that got any respect on there., or maybe it's because I have always been contriarian to the mainstream and MTV is the propaganda of the mainstream, but it's probably just because everybody who has ever been on there is a dumbass retard douchebag. It could also be that I'm over 30 now and can't translate dumbass retard douchebag in to english, so i just don't get it.
isn't 'my super sweet 16' on mtv? you have to start watching that
Yes, M, it is. MTV Reality Shows are, for my money, the best on tv (RR, RW, RR/RW, SS16, LB, the Hills, the "Real Life" series etc.) and the worst (Date My Mom, Next, Parental Control, Room Raiders etc.). MTV is one of my default stations though, where if I'm doing stuff around the house, and flip the tv on for the hell of it, it's often to MTV, ABC Family, the Weather Channel or maybe VH1, though I think they're going through a programming rough patch, so they're not on my default list anymore. I feel like it helps me know what the kids are up to. Because, you know the kids aren't to be trusted. It's part of my Keep Your Enemies Close Strategy.
Her blonde friend on CUPID was also hot. Picture books Jo? You must be geared up for '300'. That reminds me. I have some picture books to pick up this week as well.
The Piv also played "GEORGE" on "SEINFELD" when Jerry and George were writing "JERRY". I hope I got that right. You can see then that he was really and is actually balding. The toupee mystery should have never been a mystery. His new movie with my man COMMON looks like it's going to be hot too.
My sweet 16 is like a really bad car wreck that you cannot turn away from. You just have to see what these young children/people who have done nothing significant in life at all are going to be bought by indulging parents next. Can you imagine having the TRIBE play at your sweet sixteen, though I think it would be easier to pull off these days than it would have been some time ago.
Tonight I watch the Ghost Whisperer because she's such a GOOD actress, then it's on to Las Vegas followed up by Numbers.
Ha ha!! Ah, Cupid - why did you only run one season!?
That's right!! I forgot he was 'George'! Ah, I love the Piven. Even when he's all nerdy with the George getup.
Wow, Bunn, I didn't realize we'd decided to change the meaning of "Good Actress" to "Has a great rack."
I want to see Smokin' Aces very, very badly. However - and pardon the vulgarity/TMI - I am going to have to wear waterproof panties because I'm pretty much in love with the entire cast. In addition to the aforementioned Piven, Common's had me since 'I Used to Love H.E.R.", Jason Bateman since "Teen Wolf 2," rekindled during Arrested Development, I still think Ben Affleck would be the greatest drinking buddy/drunken hook up ever, I've loved Ryan Reynolds since 2 Guys, A Girl, and A Pizza Place, and even watched him that horrible movie where he used to be fat, despite his whole being Canadian/dating Alanis thing, Andy Garcia is, well, Andy Garcia. IMDB also tells me that Brian Bloom, oh he of 80s "that guy" hottie-dom, also has a small role, as well as Matthew Fox, which isn't really my cup o' tea, but whatever.
How is ugly/hairy ass Alicia Keys the only woman in this movie???
HT, there are actually two african-american female assassinsm, so Alicia Keys isn't it. The other woman is actually a DC native! How about that!
I am with you on the love for most of the cast. I still don't feel the love for Ben Affleck, but I'm with you on the rest. I will go see it with you.
I'm with Bunn, even though I've never seen her show, Jennifer Love Hewitt is an extremely good actress.
I must disagree with you. Ms. Keyes is neither Hairy or Ugly. I will forgive you this transgression once....only once. Two African American women in the same movie that doesn't focus around an all black cast, WITH speaking lines I'm told? Who green lit this movie? Surely they'll pay down the road.
Am I to believe that no one here is familiar with Paradise Hotel? Am I the only one with the Reality Television channel? Am I the only one with Direct TV? If not. That would be channel 150. We just got the CW though. My only complaint in regards to Satalite Television and now that's even been solved.
This weekend I also look forward to episode three of Rome and Extras afterwards. Lucious Veronius (sp. but get my drift) is a bad man. He is after all a son of HADES!!
Speaking of Teen Wolf 2, they've been running Teen Wolf non-stop on the HBO's of late. "GIVE ME...A KEG OF BEER"
Oh, yeah, I couldn't bring myself to watch Paradise Hotel. I think it was the fact that there didn't seem to be an endpoint, b/c I love trash tv, but I also love knowing I won't have to spend the rest of my life watching those bozos.
Now Love Cruise? That was excellent tv. My favorite part was how they would have people on 'Exile Island' & they would show video of goats & piles of trash. Ha ha! And the first Temptation Island. Ha ha! There's some cartoon on Nickelodean called 'Billy & Mandy' & I always think of Temptation Island when I see that on the line-up! And I briefly fear for my life thinking they got their own tv show! And then I breathe a sigh of relief when I realize it's a different Billy & Mandy.
Bunn, I hate to burst your bubble: but she's got a bit of the chest hair.
I kind of remember Paradise Hotel. Temptation Island was my Fox reality secret shame though. First season. Wow.
My friend was recruited for Love Cruise on a plane, but as he has an oz. of dignity, he declined.
Billy and Mandy is good TV.
I love that the grim reaper is Jamaican. He cracks my shit up. I mean I've always thought of the Grim reaper as a high stress job and anal personality with a germanic accent, but the Jamiacan is priceless.
Not much about that show is geared towards kids, except fot eh bright colors and funny shapes.
Toni, the blonde thicker girl on Love Cruise with the wild eyes was also on Paradise Hotel. Just so you know how QUALITY the cast really was. I've got TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE!!
First Season of Temptation Island. Now that was MUST SEE TV. I often thought it would be cool to take a cousin on the show pretending we were a couple and just "CHEAT" on each other the entire time.
I remember a show called Garden of Eden or something like that. It ran for three weeks and just never aired again. Now that was a bummer.
New episodes of the Family Guy start Sunday too.
Oh god, Toni was priceless!! She was also on Blind Date once! That chick is some freaky shit!! I remember seeing the previews and dying waiting for the episode where she went all psychoticly (hm sp?) bug-eyed on the chick. Oh, she is some quality crap, that's for sure. And they were like "Hm, this show is too short. I know! We'll bring people back from Exile Island!" Ha! That would be a good show to get a dvd of. Oh, the extras . . . .
