Gearing up for the Madness

The excitement of NCAA March Madness is almost upon us. The time of year when everyone's office engages in illegal gambling and we adjust our television watching habits to find out if our sleeper pick beat Duke (never happens).

For me it's the very happy time of year that lets me know we are just a few short weeks away from baseball, which also throws a big monkey wrench into my set tv watching rotation.

Anyway, the weekend had a few tv gems: last night the missus and I caught a very funny Family Guy (Bill Clinton can talk the panties off anyone) we also watched a bit of a special about the Jonestown suicides on the History Channel. Crazy stuff, and it made me think about The Others on Lost. There was typical fare on The Apprentice, with the statistically most talented guy getting kicked off because he was annoying. The L Word was pretty damned good. There is unrest on Lesbian Land. You really should watch that show...

I taped BSG (battlestar Galactica) to watch tonight since Heroes is on hiatus. We also taped a Ted Koppel special abot the Global War on Terror that aired on Discovery Channel. And we taped Al Gore's movie so we can watch it one night when we can't fall asleep (I'm kidding...a little).

What did you catch on the tube this weekend? Are you going to miss Heroes as much as I will tonight? And which team will play Cinderella in this year's tournament?

Nyah!! Hey, asshole, I'm rooting for Notre Dame. But maybe I won't now.

Watched Rob & Amber get kicked off of the Amazing Race - bummed out by that, b/c even though he's kind of a jackass, they were fun to watch. And they weren't all pious & like "Well, if that's how you want to race, then I guess I'm a better person than you" blah blah blah. Like f'ing Mirna. What a twat. Ugh.

Um. Didn't watch much else this weekend - I have that Ted Koppel thing taped, too, but man, it sounds depressing. I wish I'd taped that Jonestown thing!! I would have loved to have seen that. I did watch 'Marie-Antoinette' over the weekend - pretty good movie.

Will try to watch 24 tonight, but am going up to Friendship Heights to have a couple of drinks with a friend, so who knows what time I'll get home.

former presidents' sexual depravity is funny. unfortunatly, there was some nascar thing that went over prior to the simpsons so all the sunday shows were shifted 10-15minutes which meant: i watched almost a full "Winners" (rob cordry's show)... god it was horrible.

horrible as if it was in a competition to see what the most horrid shit you can put on tv and not be burned at the stake.

i really don't watch college b-ball in anyway but somehow always find myself betting on march madness and doing rather well. i blame my lack of interest in the lack of a sports program at school (that wasn't painful to watch.. there used to be a runnign bet that the cheerleaders could beat our football team in an average game). and the betting thing? well.. i have a problem..

Thank you, Jo. I will resume my cheering for the Fighting Irish. Although truth be told, it's mostly b/c a fellow Devil is at the helm.

Wow, I really wanted to catch an episode of the Winner, b/c I loved Corddry on the Daily Show, but everyone I've talked to about it has said that it's horrible and not in a good way. So that's good to know I don't have to waste my time. Huzzah!

Yay, March Madness!! My favorite & least favorite time of year. This year I'm only filling in one bracket b/c I tend to pick several upsets, but they'll be split amongst my 2 or 3 brackets, so no extra points for moi. Oh well!

The Winner is really really bad.
Painfully so.

So NotWitty's comment on OWFL made me think there are 2 kinds of people in this world. Munster people & Addams Family people. Which are you? I'm an Addams Family person. I don't hate the Munsters, but the Addams Family will always do it for me b/c of Thing & Cousin Itt, who I was for Halloween at least twice & maybe a third time, I can't remember anymore. In high school I borrowed my dad's camel hair coat (literally, camel hair, not just camel colored), which was very similar to my hair color & flipped the hair over, etc. I was a great cousin Itt. Oh, and Lurch. Poor put-upon Lurch.

I watched the L Word and some movies this weekend. (the Departed and the Last Kiss) Oh, and caught up on the Black Donnelly's. I like that show, but I'm not sure about its ability to sustain itself. It's a little high drama, so we'll see if it can keep it up.

Tonight after pea burgers, I want to watch Black Donnelly's and dvr The Riches or whatever it's called on FX.

Oh, right, the Riches! Does that start tonight? I set my dvr to tape it like last week, b/c I knew I'd forget about it whenever it came on. Phew!

I'd always heard it as Beatles v. Elvis. In either contest, I'm a Beatles fan, even though Mick Jagger is way cooler than Paul McCartney now.

Paper said the L Word got renewed for 12 episodes (like, one season?) & the Marlee Matlin is joining the cast & Cybil Shepard will be guesting. Just fyi.

You must've been reading last year's paper, b/c this describes current season.

What I like about this show is that my "favorite" keeps changing. I am more fascinated by Shane's looks - like I could stare at her for days. I don't think she's hot necessarily, just really, really interesting looking. My current favorite is probably Helena; I like poor, adventurous, gambling Helena. I want to stab Jenny in the throat right now though. I hope someone punches her. Maybe Dawn Weiner will come back and do the honors. Alice is really annoying too, and I hope her hot Army chick dumps her for being a whiny, Liberal, nag. (she can be Liberal - she just needs to stop whining and nagging about it)

I vacillate on Bette though. She is an insane control freak, but I really don't like Marlee Matlin and therefore amn't warming to Jody.

And screw Bono and U2 for good measure.

Amen, NW, A-MFing-Men

Just to prove I am not crazy, the small thing at the top of page 17 from today's Express. Is Marlee a regular cast member right now or is just a "special guest star"? It says something about an early 2008 debut, too. I don't know. I just report what I read.

That's weird. Cybil is a regular cast member, and both have been added to the opening credits; I don't remember how Marlee was credited last night, but she and Cybil have both been on all season.

The Express is behind the times.

At 3:41 PM, Blogger LizTurtle said...

Huh, that's weird, b/c the Express is usually only a few days behind.

I couldn't get into Big Love. Bill Paxton just doesn't do it for me. And now I don't have HBO, so . . . .

How hot was Annabella Sciorra last night?

NW, I just realized it last night, really, b/c I found myself not wanting to strangle Tina or Max for the first time in ages. And, I liked Jenny for most of last season, but she's become an insufferable cunt this year.

But, I guess it could be said that's how women are, in a general sense.

what's the opposite of an "insufferable cunt"?
