My Adventures in Non-Recorded TV

So last night I tried what seemed impossible....enjoy all my favorite NBC Thursday night shows, but not recorded. What would happen if I had to go to the bathroom?? Or I wanted a snack?? Or my cell phone rang?? I was quite nervous, but I'm glad to report that I made it! I didn't get home from work until 8:20 so I didn't get a chance to see Earl. I hadn't seen my parents in almost a month (too long for my mother's liking) so I had to cram all my social time into 10 minutes without making it seem rushed (I couldn't miss the office!).

I somehow did it and ran to the couch for 8:30. The Office was wonderful...Dwight almost suffocating Meredith with the garbage bag while trying to capture the vampire bat was hilarious. I found Scrubs and 30Rock enjoyable as well.

As for the non-recorded part of things, there were some close calls when I'd get distracted during a commercial and almost miss the show coming back on, but I think I was just out of practice. All in all, I'm glad to know that I can survive without recorded tv, but I wouldn't want to make a habit out of it.

Bravo, Mau! I applaud your fearlessness in attacking the problem of unrecordedness. You should write a memoir about your experience. I'm so glad I decided to go ahead & get dish with dvr. Those were a bad couple of months in there when I only had bunny ears & crappy reception. The WB was the only channel that came in clearly!

I watched Wednesday's FNL last night, then Office, Scrubs & 30 Rock - I have to say, I love Rachel Dratch on 30 Rock. She's so funny. Then I watched TVLand's Myths & Legends where I learned that 1. there may or may not have been a Poltergeist curse, but a lot of people associated with the movie died under bizarre circumstances, 2. Groucho Marx never said that line about 'I love my cigar, but I take it out of my mouth once in awhile' on the air. Apparently it did happen on the radio show, but was excised from the show before being broadcast. Crap there were 2 other stories, but I can't remember what they were. Well, it was good stuff anyway.

I have a theory of what's going to happen on Scrubs: since this is most likely the last year of it, I think JD will find his girlfriend is still pregnant & will pick up & move to Seattle (Portland? where?) to be with her & that'll be the end of the series. :-(

Watched Earl, Office and Grey's...fell asleep during ER again...drinking on Thursdays is seriously cutting into my ER time.

Earl's breakdancing was priceless, the Chunky moment muy funny and Grey's still has HT hooked for at least one more week!

I went to Adam's Mill for a kickball board meeting (I'm Vice President for the Adams Morgan division) / fundraising flip cup tournament. I didn't get home until a few minutes into 30 Rock. Good stuff. I hope they show the casting for Tracey's daughter. That shit could be good and funny.

And what's wrong with Hobo sketches? Imagine the hilarity of Hobo Idol, or 3 Hobo's company, or Hardcastle and McHobo?

Yes, I watched with Lady A last night - Grey's has me, and they will REALLY get me if they kill Meredith. THAT would be some bold programming.

I got home and watched DVRd OC - I didn't love this week's, but I promise I will be crying my eyes out next week. Of course, I've already made non-OC watching plans for Th, so I will be watching it after the fact, most likely multiple times.

Wow! I was just in the middle of a Thursday night TV conversation, and for the first time in my memory, I didn't just tune it out because I saw some of the shows that were being discussed. Thank you TVLunch. Thank you.
